Nearly drowned in Falmouth

Sorry but nothing quite as dramatic as that. All the images of Falmouth that I've just uploaded have been done whilst on assignment for Cornwall Life magazine and this one is my favourite. It's of the Prince of Wales Pier and as an illustration of Falmouth it's useless, but as a science fiction fan I just couldn't resist a picture where the world looks drowned. I can never resist anything post-apocalyptic at all. I wish I could tell you that this was just like something out of J G Ballard's "The Drowned World" but, not having read it, I can't. Seems like it should be though, although the water was actually only an eigth of an inch deep - it's just that the rain had finished an instant ago and the water hadn't had time to run off anywhere.
The day was a day of torrential rain followed by bright sunshine, alternating all day long so if you're prepared to keep sheltering such days can be quite magical especially if the sun is hot enough to cause steam to rise.
I enjoy photographing Falmouth as there's loads of detail but in the narrow streets there's lots of shadow and the riverfront faces NE which means that it only gets the sun in the summer and to photograph it I have to be there at 7am so I have to leave at 5am so I have to get up at 4am. Any really early morning is worth it though if the sun comes out. Look at all the pics here.
