Autumn landscape near Barbrook, Exmoor

This is a pic of Coombe Park Woods near Barbrook on the North Devon side of Exmoor. It’s always difficult to find autumn woods in sunshine (even when there is any) here in North Devon or Exmoor. Geologically, they’re the same place with ridges running east to west and shadow on the northern slopes of those ridges for the winter months. Because of that, the soil, light and warmth are poor so that’s where the trees get planted but, photographically, it means those places are in shadow in autumn so, unlike somewhere like the New Forest, you really have to search for deciduous trees that have sun on them in the autumn. This small length of riverbank was a result of one of those searches.
